After the last recent update, the speed sensor is no longer recognized

I have 3 Fans connected to the same slot on my mainboard. until recently I could pick a random system fan in the control view and pair the speed sensor (I had to do this after every boot, though, I dont know if this is expected to work that way). Now, the speed sensor is no longe recognized whether automatically nor manually. thus the sys Fans remain on 50% idle and would go up to become too loud on work load, even when they are not needed

The CPU fan, the pump fan and the 3 graphics card fans are recognized though.

No that's not normal. You are meant to do it once, save the config (that's the import bit), and it will stay that way.
3 fans on a splitter onto a header may give weird RPM result, so the automatic pairing might not pick it up.

If you downgrade to V277, can you confirm it works properly then?

Okay, I didn't wanted to dump it on you, because I am not really into this topic, and how I explain it might be unhelpful, but I try.

The whole thing is mostly black box for me, this is why I let the PC Shop do the assembly.
I wanted them to replace the three case included fans with better ones, but they got it wrong and installed the fans additionaly. However they put the additional fans horizontally onto the top of the case, which I want to have sealed, so they are of no use there. As I didn't want to mess things up by tinkering with, I decided to just interrupt the wire connector linking them, and now I go with the three regular ones.

MSI MAG Z790 TOMAHAWK has 6 fan connectors.
Connector 1 is blocked I can't see if there is something plugged in , and connectors 2, 3, 4, and 5 are empty, so I guess the PC Shop hooked all six fans to the same connector (6), which I personally thought not to be the best solution, but as I do not have cables to reach the lower ports, I let it be that way.

On the app all the fans show a percantage, even when they say that there was no speed sensor paired.

When I simply open the app, the fans act like there was no steering at all and they go for their default behaviour,
which seems to be 60% on idle - which is already too loud for what I want - and then going up even more as soon any application / game is started, regardless if there is any need for more cooling or not.

When I want to pair the fans manually with FanControl, the App would display them all with 0 RPM, even though they are clearly moving:

I guess as they are all wired to the same connector, there would be one setting for all three (six) anyway, would there? As they could not be distinguished?

As manual recognition does not work, I would then go to automatic recognition, and here it gets weird:

I am not sure on what version it acutally switches but I tried now V275 vs V278

Until V 275, the pop up would also say, that there was no speed sensor found, however after setting the fans to 75% for the test, they would go down to 40% afterwards and stay there, even when a game or tool is started, until the additional cooling power is realy needed, which is rarely the case, as the cpu fan and pump fan seem to handle it most of the time.

This is actually what I want to achieve, I didn't know why it worked but it did what it should, so I keep going with this, running the automatic test after each reboot of the PC.

On newer versions, this no longer works: After doing the auto test, the fans would fall back into default mode with the 60% and automatic boost upon starting an application.

Ok that's a lot of information.

1: if you are not sure how/where these fans are plugged in, then it's hard to judge what's going on. They could be just wired straight to the PSU and get 12V and be powered that way.

2: FanControl shows "outlets/headers", not "fans" per say, and they are always powered, that's why you see a percentage, just like your outlets at home have power even if they don't have anything plugged in. However there will be no RPM signal obviously if no fan is plugged in said header.

3: From your screenshots, you got nothing configured to actually control the speed of the fans. Doing the calibration over and over doesn't do anything towards controlling your fans. While it calibrates it controls momentarily the fans to figure out stuff, but then it all stops. As long as the toggle switches on the control cards are off, then the software does nothing, your BIOS still control your fans.

Start by clicking the big "+" button at the bottom right, and add a flat curve. Set a %, then assign it to each control card (toggle on, then use the dropdown menu of each), one at a time. Play with that % and see how your fans react.

(I don't want to hijack this bug tracker for my personal tech support, so I am fine If you decide that this is not the place to escalate this further)

1./2. I can see through the glass that something is plugged to outlet no. 6 and that nothing is plugged to outlets 2,3,4,5 . If it werent the fans connected to outlet 6, I dont know what else it could be that is pugged in there. On the other hand, would the fact that I do not get a RPM signal feedback neither from outlet 1 nor 6. be an indicator for direct PSU wiring? Or could there be any other reasons the fans sensors are not readable?

3. Yes I actually did look into this but I did not get any desired response when I toggled switches, I then thought that it does not work as I do not get the sensor pairing to work.

However, as I said before, I do get the desired effect, when I run the auto pairing. I thought this was because FanControl would establish some basic steering in the background and the toggle switches are just needed in case that I want to fine tune it.

If you say that this is not the case, then for what ever reason the auto test seems to activate something on the BIOS - or at least it did until V275.

I also tried with the msi center fan tool, but there it cant read out the RPM either. My next step will be to see what happens when I reconnect the three addional fans, I will try to figure out if they are connected to the PSU or outlet 6 then.

Just to be extremely clear. Doing what you are doing with the auto-test does NOT actively control the fans from the software. Whatever behavior you get after that is not driven by the software in any way, shape or form.
