Overview

This PR updates the course content to reflect recent Copilot CLI model availability (v1.0.88+, released September 21-27, 2026).

Changes Made

Chapter 01: First Steps

  • Updated the /model section to include current model examples: Claude Opus 5.5, GPT-6 Sol, and GPT-6 Luna
  • Updated the premium request tip to mention Claude Opus 5.5 as a default option
  • Enhanced clarity on model availability for beginners learning about model selection

Why These Updates

Recent Copilot CLI releases (v1.0.88, v1.0.89-x) added:

  1. Claude Opus 5.5 - A new high-capability Claude model
  2. GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna - New OpenAI GPT-6 variants

These models are now available in Copilot CLI's model picker and should be reflected in the course to ensure:

  • Beginners see current examples of available options
  • Documentation stays current with CLI capabilities
  • Users understand the breadth of models available by their subscription tier

Testing Notes

  • No functional changes to code examples
  • All code blocks remain copy-paste ready
  • Model names are accurate as of v1.0.88 stable release (Sept 22, 2026)
  • Content remains beginner-friendly and doesn't over-specify tool behavior

> /model

# Shows available models and lets you pick one. Select Sonnet 4.5.
# Shows available models and lets you pick one. Examples: GPT-6 Sol, GPT-6 Luna, Claude Sonnet 5.5, Claude Opus 5.5.
> 💡 **Session vs. persistent model**: The `/model` command changes the model for the **current session only**. When you start a new session, Copilot will use the default again. To set a permanent default model for all future sessions, use `/config model` instead.

> 💡 **Tip**: Some models cost more "premium requests" than others. Models marked **1x** (like Claude Sonnet 4.5) are a great default. They're capable and efficient. Higher-multiplier models use your premium request quota faster, so save those for when you really need them.
> 💡 **Tip**: Copilot CLI usage is measured in **GitHub AI Credits**. The number of credits used depends on the model you select and how many tokens the task consumes. More capable models may cost more, so use lighter models for routine tasks and save powerful reasoning models for complex work. Run `/usage` to see how many AI credits your current session has used.
